Since there is a Lower Town, I specified this section as Upper Town for a lack of a better name. To me the clown of Upper Town is the Harper Cemetery, located on the path above Jefferson Rock. Adjoining the cemetery are the old buildings of Storer College, which have been restored by the National Park Service. Many of these wonderful old structures are utilized for park administration and the National Park’s, Interpretive Design Center.
Most of the rest of Upper Town is private property with many lovely homes and small businesses. The photo above was taken from the patio of the Hilltop House Hotel. This is truly a unique structure from a different era, well worth a stop.
Enjoy exploring this area that is often neglected by so many visitors.
